Business Innovator of the Year 2010 - SA Business Club UK

Carmel has had over 25 years’ experience in public relations and marketing in the UK in a variety of product sectors including pro-celebrity golf, hot-air ballooning, horse trials, agricultural shows, charities, fashion, cosmetics, and car companies.  In recent years she has worked closely with South African companies promoting their products in the UK.

In 1999 she founded PR consultancy Suthons King before joining forces with Avril Mills in February 2006 to form North & South PR.

Over fourteen years ago she saw a new South African wine at a tasting at the SA Embassy and pestered the company until she was contracted to work on its publicity. With virtually no advertising budget, Arniston Bay grew into one of the top twenty wines in the UK at the time.

This opened the door to supporting the marketing of other South African wine labels into the UK and European markets. Carmel has since become something of a wine marketing specialist and has spent working holidays in European cellars and vineyards to gain understanding of the industry.

North & South PR currently works with Albert Bartlett Ltd, the UK’s leading grower and packer of potatoes and recently launched Purple Majesty potatoes into Sainsbury’s.  The launch achieved extensive coverage in both the national and regional press and broadcast sectors of the media.

Worked for South African entertainment promotor Hunta Live to promote their event, Bafunny Bafunny at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010.

In the build-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup worked with SA Tourism, SA Wines Online, SA High Commission and various South African organisations and companies in the UK alongside official World Cup sponsors to raise support for the event.

Carmel currently sits onthe committees of the South African Charity Golf Day and more recently The SA Business Club.

Past clients include Malagrida Italian knitware, MyArtPrints, Tearfund, Street One Clothing, BBC Business Programmes and Diabetes UK.
